Sold! For Goodwill's Mission
A new vehicle auction center. Prospective car sales. Seeking vehicle donations.
What is this all about? For Goodwill, this is about the mission.
The goal of Goodwill Industries of Northwest Ohio's auto auction is to generate funds, which will provide education, training and career services for people with physical, mental and emotional disabilities.
The auto auction is the organization's latest addition. Goodwill's donated goods department is opening an auto auction in late summer of this year. The auto auction will be the new location for the organization's donated vehicles, such as cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, RV's, campers and trailers.
In the past, vehicles donated to Goodwill were sold at the store location where they were delivered. The vehicles were sold to consumers seeking transportation for work, recreation or general day-to-day purposes. Now, customers seeking vehicles will be able to purchase them at the centralized auto auction.
Donated vehicles along with their titles can still be dropped off at any of Goodwill's 11 Northwest Ohio retail locations. Vehicles that do not run can be towed by contacting Julie Swaggerty at (419) 255-0070.
More than three-fourths of the auction's proceeds will be used for evaluating, training and helping Goodwill consumers obtain employment.
In addition to generating funds for Goodwill's current training programs, the donated goods department will work in conjunction with the workforce development department to create a car detailing training program. Goodwill consumers will be trained to buff cars and know what chemical solutions to use to highlight the vehicles' finish. More advanced training will be added as the program grows.
"The new car detailing program supports our mission and shows how, when Goodwill departments work together, it makes what we do stronger," said Amy Wachob, retail sales director.
Goodwill believes in putting people to work and helping them become self-sufficient individuals. The organization has hundreds of success stories to prove that its efforts are both necessary and helpful. Through Goodwill's training and assistance programs, consumers have built self-confidence, independence, friendships and creativity. Goodwill provides the opportunity to build skills which builds confidence. That is why the organization places 85 percent of its funds from donations back into its training programs.
