Goodwill-Dell Partnership: Three Years of Free Computer Recycling
The end of February marks the third anniversary of Reconnect, Goodwill's free drop-off program to recycle unwanted computer hardware. Launched in 2008 by Dell and Goodwill Industries of Northwest Ohio, Reconnect has kept 1,550,959 pounds of used computers and computer equipment out of landfills. That's 775 tons of recycled material!
Since its inception, the program's goal has been twofold: to divert tons of used computers from area landfills and to provide consumer education on the importance of environmentally responsible computer disposal. Reconnect also helps create job opportunities for individuals with disabilities and other employment barriers.
Residents throughout Northwest Ohio can visit www.goodwillnwohio.com to locate the most convenient
drop off at any of our 21 Goodwill retail stores and donation
centers. Goodwill accepts and sorts the donated computer equipment and Dell's product recovery
partner recycles and re-markets the recycled materials, such as plastics, glass and metals. All
proceeds support Goodwill's non-profit training and employment programs.
