Work Experience Helps Kyle Prepare For His Dream
Young Kyle Adair's first experience with Goodwill Industries of Northwest Ohio was through the organization's 2010 Summer Youth program. At that time he learned to do food preparation for the former "My Brother's Place" restaurant in downtown Toledo. Now the 18 year-old has turned the skills he developed then into a permanent, part-time job with the McDonald's restaurant in Swanton, Ohio, where he lives.
Kyle, who is just entering his senior year at Swanton High School, currently lives in a foster home with other youth. Born in Henry County, he moved to Toledo at age 13 and then to his current home in Swanton.
After last summer's experience he began working with one of Goodwill's job developers, Heather Nash. Together they would set-up and attend job interviews one afternoon a week after school. It was in this way that Kyle landed his new position with McDonald's, where he works the deep fryer and as a grill cook. Of the job Kyle says, "I really like learning new skills and getting to know the people I work with."
He sees this as just the beginning. One day Kyle hopes to take the experience he gets now to a much higher level by attending the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. He dreams of becoming a professional chef.
Until that day, he is quite happy with his position at McDonald's and with his involvement in High School where he is a member of the school choir. In his spare time, Kyle loves to sing and act. Over the last several years, he has appeared in the school musicals Oklahoma, Cinderella and Hello Dolly. On top of all this, Kyle is currently running for Treasurer of the Swanton High School student body. Good luck Kyle, in all you do.
