Feeling Great About Getting a Job
Like so many of the individuals who come to Goodwill for service, Nathan Tenny had been looking for a job for a long time, nearly two and a half years. Nathan graduated from Evergreen High School, attending Four County Vocational School his final two years. He studied Diesel Mechanics for a while, but struggled with the math. Nathan studied Hospitality, but could not find work near where he lived. Nathan was to finally get a job with the Fallen Timbers Truck Stop on the turnpike as a janitor, but he had to give up that job when he and his mother moved to the Toledo area, in 2007. Almost two years ago, he started services with Lott Industries. During that time, he learned to drive and obtained his drivers license and worked as a janitor during a summer youth work program. Lott Industries referred him to Goodwill so he could be formally trained as a janitor. After a month of learning the skills and techniques needed for cleaning effectively, and increasing his speed, Nathan was able to obtain a job with the West Toledo YMCA as a janitor.
Nathan said he "feels great about getting a job." He was relieved to find a job so quickly, as he had not yet finished his training. Nathan's job will start out on Saturdays, when he will clean during the morning and early afternoon. He hopes to be able to get some more hours by working the night shift. Nathan knows he can reach his goals now that he has a job.
