Janitorial Training
The comprehensive Janitorial Training Program provides individuals with marketable skills in the highly skilled field of janitorial services. This one-to-four month program encompasses a curriculum that includes the most modern and relevant methods and procedures. In addition, all individuals receive practical work experience in janitorial services. Ten hours of placement are included with the successful completion of a certificate program.
Classroom instruction includes
- Floor cleaning and resurfacing
- Proper chemical maintenance of a variety of surfaces
- Proper use of power equipment
- Emphasis on reliability and professional public response
Hands-on instruction takes place at the Huron St. headquarters. Maintenance cleaning projects are scheduled each day.
Graduates of the Janitorial Training Program man the cleaning contracts Goodwill establishes with local businesses. Goodwill provides the workers with transportation and cleaning equipment when necessary. Crew leaders act as on-site supervisors to assure high quality performance.

Light Building Maintenance
Perceiving a strong need for qualified employees in this trade area, we offer a six- (6) month training course. Structured to include a variety of classroom and hands-on paid work experience, students in this course will be exposed to, and become proficient in, a variety of building related operations. Curriculum will include light electrical and plumbing as well as painting, drywall, general building repairs, basic carpentry and janitorial skills. Safety will be a constant focus and basic math and measuring skills will also be emphasized. Paid work sites during the course will be within the Goodwill network as well as throughout the community. All services, training supplies/equipment needed for success in the course are included in the fee. The training program will include a two-month externship at a Goodwill store in the community. Ten hours of placement are included with the successful completion of a certificate program.
