Our Vocational Evaluation department helps people discover what kind of work they want to do or what they can do.

Some of the people who use these services are no longer able to work in the field they used to because of an illness like multiple sclerosis or fibromyalgia. Sometimes it is because of an injury or a stroke. Some people, especially younger individuals, have never worked and do not know what kind of work they might want to do. Our experts help all these people find out what kind of work they can do and want to do.

Over 70 tests can be administered to assess an individual’s full potential. We use interest inventories, academic achievement testing, a wide range of aptitude tests, work samples, learning style assessments and work areas. Many people will spend a few days completing different tests then spend a day or two working in one of three work areas.

Vocational evaluations last from one day up to three weeks, depending on which tests are administered and if a work try-out is required.

We also provide work settings for Work Adjustment programs, which help a person to develop more effective and appropriate work habits and behaviors. Work adjustment consumers typically work in either the janitorial department, in retail or clerical, but work sites can be customized based on the person’s interests.

Our two Vocational Evaluators are both certified Rehabilitation Counselors and Vocational Experts for the Bureau for Workers’ Compensation. They travel around Northwest Ohio to provide vocational evaluations in: Defiance, Findlay, Lorain, Sandusky, Tiffin, and Toledo. They are able to provide evaluations in other locations as well.

Vocational evaluation provided 132 evaluations and services to consumers in 2012. These services help determine the job readiness and career paths for individuals.
