Black History Month

February 1 - March 1

Since its inception, Black History celebrations have always had a theme. The importance of yearly themes is to focus the attention on a particular aspect of Black culture and experience. The 2023 Black History Month’s theme, “Black Resistance,” highlights how Black Americans have fought against racial inequality. Black Americans’ resistance to racial inequality has deep roots in U.S. history and has taken many forms.
Black History Month is a time to celebrate the fullness of African American history and culture, and it cannot be contained in one month alone.
